 expanded over the last 30 years to support new technology including XML, te
 mporal data, JSON, Row Pattern Recognition, Polymorphic Table Functions,&nb
 sp;and Multidimensional Arrays.</p>\n<p>The Database Languages standards co
 mmittee (ISO/IEC JTC1 SC32 WG3) is now expanding SQL to add support for pro
 perty graph queries within SQL (SQL/PGQ).</p>\n<p>In addition, WG3 has appr
 oval for a new project to develop a declarative Property Graph Query Langua
 ge (GQL) that builds on foundational elements from the SQL Standards such a
 s data types, operations, and transactions.</p>\nThis session will present 
 a brief history of the SQL Standard, a high-level overview of the features 
 in the SQL: 2016 standard, the status of the GQL project, and how SQL and G
 QL overlap and fit together.
