are development methodologies, the role of the data modeler has changed sig
nificantly. In many organizations, data modelers now find themselves on the
outside looking in, relegated to documentation “after the fact&rdquo
; rather than active participation in database design where the true value
is added. Some organizations using Agile practices have incorrectly dismiss
ed the importance of data modeling, often with disastrous results.
\n

Ron Huizenga will discuss how to adopt a lean data modeling approach that i
s compatible with agile and all other methodologies. This session also feat
ures a case study in which data modeling was introduced partway through a m
ajor initiative that would have failed otherwise, highlighting metrics that
illustrate the contrast when utilizing a lean approach and skilled data mo
delers versus a development-only approach.
\n
