This presentation tel ls how Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) selected and implemented its Enterprise D ata Governance Platform.
\nUnder the sponsorship of RBC senior execut ives, the Chief Data Office as owner of the Enterprise Data Policy ini tiated the creation and establishment of the Data Governance Platform (DGP) . Its key drivers are to support the Enterprise Data Strategy and all its u nits in alignment with business priorities, proven compliance, and auditabl e practices.
\nSome of the aspects that we will mention are:
\n\n Business metadata (e.g., definition, ownership, classification, polici es/restrictions) about Data Domains and underlying critical data elements ( CDEs) maintenance. Systems lineage including data flows for all CDEs\n Full end-to-end data lineage including attribute-level system lineage and b usiness and technical transformation rules for Tier 1 CDEs\n Data lineage and metadata information maintenance as changes occur and are reviewed at minimum annually on the Enterprise Data Governance Platform. Da ta Domain Stewards lead the maintenance of business metadata including doma in-specific policy documents, while Data Custodians lead the maintenance of technical metadata\n Critical data assigned classification that identifies confidentiality, prot ection, privacy, access, and availability controls or restrictions\n Data subject to ongoing assessment of key data risks categories. Preventati ve and detective controls to address and mitigate identified risks for CDEs \n Data Quality defined and monitored for all CDEs to ensure data is fit for p urpose. At minimum, Data Quality measures must cover the following dimensio ns: Accuracy, Completeness, and Timeliness. Other dimensions (e.g. con sistency, uniqueness, validity) can be measured where required\n Issues related to critical data must be appropriately documented, tracked, and remediated. Cross-functional and cross-domain data issues must be logge d centrally\n Maintain an inventory of approved Authoritative Sources (AS) and Authorized Provisioning Points (APP) that allow data to be shared efficiently with mi nimal impacts to source Systems of Record (SOR)\n\n DTSTART:20200324T113000 SUMMARY:Forging the Data Governance Platform: Royal Bank of Canada’s Journe y Collecting, Cataloging, and Disseminating Metadata DTEND:20200324T122959 LOCATION: See Description END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
